“My dear Jane!" exclaimed Elizabeth, "you are too good. Your sweetness and disinterestedness are really angelic”.

Oh honey, oh dear sweet anon, if you only knew how all of what you just said is inscribed on my heart.
#1000% canon fact#the gross horrible unrequitedness of this relationship forever and ever#the near miss of them attending Jaeger academy together if you go by the same-age timeline#Chuck is the youngest cadet ever but Mako is only six months older#the devastating number of Mako’s fifty-one drops fifty-one kills where Chuck Hansen was in the other simulator harness#the soul-crushing suddenness of whatever it is that goes horribly wrong#be it Scott’s boot from the PPDC and suddenly Herc needs a copilot so two weeks from graduation#two weeks from stepping into the Conn-Pod of Striker Eureka together#the fastest Jaeger ever built#with RETRACTABLE CAUTERIZING BLADES#suddenly that’s not Mako’s Jaeger anymore#or maybe something else gets out of whack#or if you prefer the timeline where they’re two years apart#then it’s a much more drawn out process of dreams being crushed#Chuck holds out hope for a long long time that something will change and somehow they’ll go through the academy together#mentions to his old man once or twice that maybe he’ll wait a couple years before enlisting#maybe he’ll try university; Gottlieb says he could get into any physics program he wants#and Herc just looks at him#THIRTY ONE FLAVORS OF CHUCK AND MAKO IN EACH OTHER’S ORBIT FOR YEARS#but never quite colliding#P.S. why was Chuck so adamant about how Raleigh went out of phase first?#because Chuck has chased the RABIT with Mako#you decide whether he’s pissed that they did it in a Jaeger and not the safe environment of a simulator#or he’s pissed because Becket got to see those memories and now thinks he knows what makes Mako tick#and understands what she means to Stacker and vice versa#whereas Chuck has been around them for ten years and still hasn’t scratched the surface of that relationship#THAT’S IT I’M OUT excuse me while I sob into a pillow
I love this anon, and I love hauntedjaeger.
I’M JUST GOING TO PULL THESE TAGS OUT AND WAIL OVER THEM DON’T MIND ME
#Chuck holds out hope for a long long time that something will change and somehow they’ll go through the academy together #mentions to his old man once or twice that maybe he’ll wait a couple years before enlisting #maybe he’ll try university; Gottlieb says he could get into any physics program he wants #and Herc just looks at him
herc saying that his son is a bright booooooooooy
how bright? really fucking bright, brighter than he has any right to be as Herc’s son (or so Herc thinks) so he must get it from his mum, bright enough to more than keep up with having Gottlieb as a tutor, bright enough to keep up with Mako Mori who headed up the rebuilding of a jaeger at twenty-one by one timeline and nineteen in another without any hint of formal training as an engineer
and what Herc Hansen’s face looks like when he realizes that his boy is so gone that he’ll
actually go do something civilian so that him and Mako can pilot together
and how, with all that desire and yearning and youthful confidence, it still all falls apart
and Chuck is standing there, told to stay like a dog, so that he won’t start shit, but he’s already stopped in his tracks, isn’t he? Watching Mako Mori call his goddamn soul across the Shatterdome and seeing Max go running to her, delighted, and yeah, he’s going to show up to the Kwoon trials, but only when they pass word that Mori is stepping in, right? Because Chuck is going to enjoy watching how he wasn’t good enough for Mako, so he’s going to see how she thrashes the wash-up, wash-out.
Chuck 100% taught that dog to run for Mako just so he’d have an excuse to always go up to her. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise.
The Croods (2013)"No more dark. No more hiding. No more caves. What’s the point of all this? To follow the light. I can’t change. I don’t have ideas. But I have my strength. And right now, that’s all you need."
I was an actor once, damn it. Now look at me. Look at me!
